Hi.

I’m a writer and editor based in Madison, WI.

During my career, I’ve written hundreds of articles for publications including the New York Times, The Atlantic, INTERVIEW, Gossamer, Madison Magazine, and T: The New York Times Style Magazine, where I was previously an editor. My articles and essays have received multiple national and regional honors, including awards for feature writing from the City and Regional Magazine Association, the National Awards for Education Reporting, and the Milwaukee Press Club. I’ve also worked for Ecotone and Lookout Books and taught publishing courses at University of North Carolina Wilmington, where I earned my MFA in fiction. I’m currently at work on my first novel.

WHAT I COVER

I write about whatever grabs my attention. One month, I’m digging into school shooting drills; the next, I’m unraveling the nuances of legal weed or chasing down cutting-edge Alzheimer’s treatments. I’ve spooned with a professional cuddle therapist, shared a playground with Hollywood A-listers, and loitered on a New York City street corner with one of the world’s top soccer players.

I’m fascinated by people—especially the messy, complicated, and surprising ones. I don’t shy away from gray areas or uncomfortable truths, nor do I settle for easy answers. I approach nonfiction with a fiction writer’s mindset—which is to say, I love characters and want to see them in action.
